Adaptation of a Scottish legend in which the protagonist, Duncan Campbell, meets his doom at the Battle of Ticonderoga, 18 July 1758, as retribution for having protected his cousin's assassin.

Robert Lewis (later changed to "Louis") Balfour Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 13, 1850. He attended the University of Edinburgh intending to become a civil engineer like his father, but ill health curtailed his studies and prompted him to travel to warmer climates.
